shadows in shadows

casually coiffed accountants wear glasses
and jackets hung over their elbows
their shadows cast within mirrored shadows

tortoise-shelled suitcase
this is not a happy place
casual fridays never too late
now wipe that smile off of your face

revolving doors turn day and night
a sushi train for beautiful souls
and do they stop to look at their reflection
or do they just see right through
and do they see their neighbour
or does this place erase them
i think the latter
one after another

the english invented the suit
and deloitte's proud, puffing out her chest
above the cranes even, above the city!
and music wanders in from a bar
and wonders how it got here
its thuds weigh the frowns
of passersby

tourists must have got lost
or like magpies followed what's shiny
photos for sure on the novelty large bench
beneath buildings crowned by acronyms

film me beneath the suez building
we'll make love in sight of allianz darling
the arch our witness, the drill our metronome
undress me implode me
watch the scaffolding fall down
and we can ride your electric scooter to the sky
garden

could you please take our photo?
something to remember
something memorable
a very large and memorable bench
to the monowheeler gliding past
hands in pockets helmet on head

and a hooded statue watches over
the parkour boys
under impossible jenga
concocted in a toddler's bedroom
and dropped in lacquer
by the name tagger

the sandwich haver dreams
of fast cars and lanyards
and mixed nuts
in a jar
as i wonder if the buildings get lonely
an arch is a house with the home cut out
and does everyone know there's a garden up there?

victories old salute victories new
of kings, of nation, of capital
as the art revolves on the esplanade
so too do the doors of our totems
and so too the cranes
and the leaves from the trees til autumn comes again

and the hammer chases its ricochet

in summer, children play in the water feature
watched over
by the tourists on the novelty bench
and the shiny gods above

but one day it will all be gone
rubble to rubble, sand to sand
old gods in a new land
and where the water feature lays
a putrid rain will fall
and sting the skin of the unfortunate ones
the rot from these foundations
will stink for long to come
